| Hi,
My name is Amy, and almost 2 years ago, my boyfriend and
I adopted what we thought then was a German Sheppard/Lab
puppy. Now that he is full grown, we found out by
researching our Yogi Bear a little that he is actually
an Australian Kelpie, which is a rare breed. He
was one of thirteen puppies, the one that had a scar
between his eyes, and the one that was under all the
others. When I held him for the first time, he
nuzzled into my neck, and I knew then I would never let
him go! We try to take him everywhere we go, and
he is quite the love. Initially, we went to the
Camarillo shelter to look at another puppy, and
discovered that one didn't suit us. We saw the
litter with Yogi and his brothers and sisters, and came
back the next week, and were able to take him home that
same day! He has brought so many love-filled
memories already in his 2 years. Now we are
looking for a little playmate, and I know we'll find one
at the shelter! Thank you so much to all who work
so hard in the shelter, and to all who give a second
chance to an animal that may not live to see another
day. Animals depend on us, but give us so much
love in return. It's definitely worth it!
Sincerely,
Amy and Tommy |

Daisy,
Daisy,
Give me your answer do!
I'm half crazy,
All for the love of you!
Daisy's story..... my family and I have
bought our first home and although we have several
wonderful animals that are included in our family we
thought it time to add to the mix a dog. We have a four
year old son and thought a puppy would be the perfect
choice. Now I am not good at going to humane shelters as
I usually end up in tears but I really wanted a
"rescue" pup. So I decided to see if there
were any shelters that featured pictures or descriptions
of their animals... it was then I found your website! I
looked through all the pictures of all the puppies
available until I found "her". She was a
little 3month old Lab Mix puppy all black and cute as a
button. Her description didn't give her name, just a
little caption about how cute she was. I showed her
picture to my husband and son and we all agreed we
wanted her. The funniest thing was I really wanted
to name her Daisy--she reminded me of a little flower.
BUT I knew my husband would not like the name Daisy...
so when I suggested it--he said he'd think about it!
Well, long story short I waited 3 long miserable days
waiting for the shelter at Long Beach to open up for
adoptions. I drove all the way from Tujunga to Long
Beach just to adopt her (a good 45 minute drive).
When I arrived at 10:05, just 5 minutes late from the
opening because I was in thick traffic, I was told I was
too late that 3 other people wanted her and they had
showed up right at 10am. The staff member explained that
there was going to be a raffle for her and I was too
late to enter it. My heart was broken-- here was
"my" doggie that I had thought about for 3
days straight, couldn't sleep and wanted so much, GONE
all because I was stuck in traffic!
I went by her kennel just to see her in person and wish
her luck. Of course she was 100xs cuter in person than
her picture and I walked away terribly sad. As I was
about to leave the SPCA I overheard to lovely women
talking about the puppy for raffle--- they wanted to
know where she was... I told them where "my
puppy" was and wished them luck. I explained to
them that I drove all the way from Tujunga hoping to
adopt her and although I am sad, I am also glad that she
is so popular she will have several homes to choose
from!
These ladies were so sweet, they insisted that I go and
request to be a part of the raffle before I leave empty
handed. So I went to the front desk-- described my
pup to a different staff member and begged to be a part
of the raffle for her. Well, IMAGINE MY SURPRISE when
the staff member told me that there was NO RAFFLE for my
puppy, that the raffle was actually for her kennel mate
and that my pup was 100% AVAILABLE right now!!!!!!!
I was so happy they had to calm me down! Now the story
gets better....
After I visited her I went to fill out the paper work
and there on the application was the puppy's name... I
could barely believe it... The people at the SPCA had
named her DAISY!!-- MY NAME FOR HER!!-- I knew right
then and there Daisy was fated to us! I called my
husband and told him the story and he said "Well,
there is no way I am going to be calling her anything
else but Daisy from now on!" So here we are happy
little family with 4 slightly grumpy cats, 2 neutral
furry bunnies and one happy little puppy named Daisy!
THANKS EVERYONE FOR MAKING SUCH A WONDERFUL WEBSITE FOR
PEOPLE TO GO TO FIND THERE FURRY BABIES! And whenever my
friends go looking for an animal to adopt I will INSIST
that they visit your site to help them find their own
fated furry baby!

There
is a flower
Within my heart,
Daisy, Daisy!
Planted one day
By a glancing dart,
Planted by Daisy Bell!
Whether she loves me
Or loves me not,
Sometimes it's hard to tell;
Yet I am longing to share the lot -

As a volunteer for AMRT I see great dogs
almost every weekend when I go
to the shelter to do write ups and take pictures.
When I first saw
"Rocky" I thought he was so sweet. When
he was still there the next
two weeks I began to worry that his time was almost up.
I knew he was
a favorite at the shelter but they can't keep dogs
forever. I couldn't
get him off my mind, I was even having dreams about him.
That's when I
knew it was up to me to save him. He was always so
eager for attention
and always had a smile. I asked my mom to come and
meet him and he now lives with her. He is a
gentle, sweet dog and is really enjoying
his new home.

HAPPY ENDING
My happy ending began on January 21, 2003 when I
went to the East
Valley Shelter with my daughter to see a dog she had
seen that she felt
was "special". I had been toying with
the idea of getting another dog
because my dog is 12 and was not motivated to do much of
anything. When
I first saw "Rocky" I thought he was awfully
big and maybe hard to
handle. But my daughter thought otherwise, so I
trusted her instincts
and we took him home that day.
On the way to get him a bath we
renamed him "Bailey". He loved his
bath and was soon home with me. He has been such a
sweet dog and so
appreciative of his new home. He is great company
for me and my other
dog. The older dog is now much more active and
alert. Bailey is always
ready to give love and wants so much to be a part of
everything that is
going on. He is a joy to have in my home and I am
so glad he is a part
of my family and life. He has added a wonderful
new dimension to my
life.
Thank you East Valley Shelter and AMRT

THANK YOU VERY MUCH AMRT!!!
We spotted Dennis, our wonderful dog, on the AMRT
website several months
ago. At the time, he had kennel cough and mange
and was not ready to be
adopted. Carol, who was taking care of Dennis, was
kind enough to keep us
updated as to his progress... Until finally we were able
to drive to Mission
Viejo and pick him up. Keep in mind, at this point
we'd fallen for Dennis's
picture, but hadn't met him yet. The moment we met
him, we knew our
instincts had been correct, and that this was the dog
for us.
At first, Dennis was a bit skittish (other than around
Carol, who he
loves!), and we could tell he'd been through some tough
times in the past.
As soon as we got Dennis home, however, he was
transformed! He is a
cheerful, playful, loving dog and a joy to be around. He
loves to fetch and
play with other dogs...and to be scratched and hugged!
He has all the best
characteristics of his Dachshund and Lab parents!
When we take him on
walks, people love to guess his breed mix, because he
looks like a lab puppy
from the front...but a dachshund from the side. We feel
so fortunate to have
found AMRT, and the kind people who work there.
Without this service we
would never have found Dennis, who has brought us so
much joy.
We simply can't imagine our household without him.
Here is a picture of him looking sleepy...
All the best,
Whit and Laurie Hall |

Hi!
I got GusGus, a 4 year old Doberman from Doberman Rescue
in December. He goes EVERYWHERE with me. But, I
thought he
would not get so lonely when I was at work if he had a
friend. I tried to find a really submissive female Dobe.
Not so easy. Finally, I
found your website and found a 9 year old Dobe at the
east valley shelter in January. I went to see her. She
was a dirty, pathetic,
droopy, food guarding mess. But oh, those huge, sad,
brown, magnetic eyes. She had a microchip, but no owner
response. One
woman on the shelter staff noticed that I was interested
and went ahead & put a hold on her for me. She said
sometimes the paperwork
gets messed up & dogs have been euthanized before
their "available date". Once I took her into
the play pen area, she turned into a
puppy. She went straight to the vet on the way home. We
got her all fixed up. I was planning on
introducing her to GusGus over a
few days - so each dog would get used to the other's
smell around the house. Well, Cinderellie had different
ideas. I took Gus for his
walk & she opened the garage side door and came
trotting down the street after us. AAGGGHH! One dog on
leash. One dog off
leash = recipe for disaster. Nope. They sniffed butts
& walked forward ( back to my house to get her
leash!)
They play, but when she gets tired, she smacks him &
takes a nap.
Thanks to all at AMRT !!!!!!

Dear AMRT,
Last week, completely by accident, we ended up on your website looking
at the many dogs available for adoption. While many were appealing,
none pulled at our heartstrings like this boy. The minute we saw him,
we just knew that he had to come and live at our house. When we found
him on your site, he had already been at the shelter for two weeks and
so we knew that he probably didn't have much time left. The problem was
that while we live in San Diego, he was at the South Central shelter in
Los Angeles. No matter - the next day we drove up to LA and went to
meet him. He was even sweeter and cuter in "person" than he was in his
photo, and by the next afternoon, we were on the way home with our new
boy. Since he was picked up as a stray, we really had no idea what we
would be getting in to - whether he would have any house manners, etc.
As it turns out, he is a complete angel boy. He is calm and mellow and
extremely bright. He is completely house broken, and has already begun
to learn basic obedience commands - he responds so well to gentle words,
treats and lots of love. We have named him Rylie, and in just one short
week he has added so much joy to our household that we can't imagine
life without him.
Rylie is such a sweet boy that after he has time to settle in a bit, we
are going to join the therapy pets program and go visiting at nursing
homes and hospitals. He has the perfect personality for the job, and we
know that he will bring lots of love, and leave lots of smiles wherever
we go.
Thank you so much for making it possible for us to bring this wonderful
boy into our lives. If anyone we know decides to look for a dog, we
will certainly send them to your website.
Warmest regards,
Elizabeth and Roland and Rylie
