Here are photos of Long Beach Shelter dogs that are available for adoption.
We are very grateful to Hacienda Heights Animal Hospital

This is Alfie, a tiny male toy poodle.  Alfie is three years old and weighs about six pounds.  He is a very affectionate and friendly dog.  Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.

This is Leo, a two year old tiny albino Chihuahua.  Those red eyes in the photo are not "flash red".  He is a little underweight at about five pounds and is totally precious.  Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.

GSD Puppy - available from ShawnGSDRescue@aol.com
This is Fluffy, a five year old sheltie mix.   Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.
This is Jason, a two year old scruffy terrier mix.   Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.
This is DeeDee, a two year old scruffy terrier mix.  Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.
This is Rosie, a three year old Jack Russell/Beagle type dog.  She weighs about 15 pounds.   Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.
This is Christy - a five year old Chihuahua who weighs about eight pounds.  Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.

This is Kurt, a nine year old slightly overweight Chihuahua.  He probably weighs about 13 pounds and should probably weigh ten pounds.

Kurt is a friendly, affectionate, funny little dog.  Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.

This is MacGyver.   He is probably about a year old.

This is either a poodle or a bichon and these dogs need to be groomed about every six weeks and it costs about $35 to $50.  So if this is something you cannot afford then do not adopt a breed that requires regular grooming.

As the grooming school is closed until after Labor Day the Mad Hacker will be working on this instead.  But at least he will be clean and mat free.  Check back later for an "after photo".

You can see from the top photo that we are making some progress.  He has his vet check on Thursday and he will get prettied up some more.  A poodle's coat grows very fast and he will look pretty real soon.

I am sure you are as upset as I am looking at this photo.  There is no excuse for any dog looking like this.   Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.

This is Chico and Chica, three month old Chihuahua puppies.  Right now they both have mange and will need about two to three months recovery.

They are a cute little pair.

Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.

This is Pirette.  She is a tiny Chihuahua, about six to eight years old, maybe.    Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.

Pirette is doing very well considering.   She is about 7 and a bit shy around strangers.  But she does make friends and then she is quite nice to have around.

She weighs about four pounds.

Shelter fee:  $17.  We fixed her cherry eyes, removed a fatty tumor, and had some dental work done - cost $420.

This is Betty - a ten year old beagle mix weighing about 20 pounds.  Betty's owner went to the hospital and never came back.  Neighbors fed her for three weeks and finally animal control came and got her.   They kept her two more weeks thinking perhaps relatives would step forward to get her, but sadly that didn't happen.

She became a shelter favorite and ran out of time on Christmas Eve.  It just didn't seem fair that she should die so they asked us to come and get her.  She is quiet, potty trained, affectionate, and generally a perfect dog. - Reason for denial to SPCA - too old.

Available via the AMRT small dog adoption program.

Update!  Gretchen has arrived in Sacramento and will start a rehabilitation program immediately.  We will keep you posted regarding her progress.

This is Gretchen, a small pure doxie.  She is emaciated and has a spinal problem that is common to this breed.

Now to be fair, the SPCA-LA did not turn this dog away.  They never saw her.  We were asked to take her when she arrived.

She will be moving to a special Doxie Rescue group in Sacramento as soon as transport can be arranged.  This rescue is particularly successful in helping dogs with these problems.

Costs:  Shelter fee - $60

Vet - Hacienda Heights Animal Hospital - $428.
