HOW DO I ADOPT A PET?
Since the City of Long Beach partnership with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) and the opening of the Companion Animal Village in August 2001, the spcaLA provides adoption services for the City of Long Beach Animal Control. Most pets available for adoption will be found in the spcaLA’s holding Cottages 2, 3, and 4 and Cat housing areas, located in the Main/Administration building. You can also view spcaLA adoptable animals at their website, www.spcaLA.com. For these pets please go directly to the spcaLA counter and inquire about adopting the pet.
Some adoptable pets may also be found in the Animal Control Cottages 6 and 7, as well as in Cat Rooms 1 and 2 in the Main/Administration building. If you wish to adopt one of these pets please ask Animal Control staff for the evaluation date. On the evaluation date, go the spcaLA counter to inquire about adopting the pet. If you wish to adopt a pet, you will be required to fill out an Adoption Questionnaire and must qualify. It is the goal of the Companion Animal Village to place all adoptable pets into a proper, loving home where they will be a companion for life.
Some pets may not be made available for adoption due to health or behavioral problems. Pets that pose a threat to the public will not be made available for adoption. 501 (c)(3) Animal Rescue Organizations may have the right to adopt any pet prior to being euthanized through the Animal Control’s 501 (c)(3) Animal Rescue Organization Adoption Program.
